St. Bakhita vocational training centre admits girls and women from needy and vulnerable backgrounds to gain vocational skills in hairdressing ,dressmaking and computer application. Students study for 12 months to get ready for a grade 3 NITA Trade Examination in December every year, as well as attending a 3-Months attachment from September to November to get real-life career experience. The teachers in these fields have the requisite qualification and vast experience in ensuring that the students in the hairdressing and dressmaking department acquire the best and accredited skills that meet the market needs.
Follow-ups and feedback follow soon after the attachment period as the students give a report about the experience- what new they learned, what they are required to do as well as challenges faced during their attachment. A gauge used by our teachers to measure quality in our training. The host organizations also give daily feedback to the teachers on each student’s progress during the attachment period.

The Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) in Kenya provides our students with a state examination- dressmaking ,hairdressing and computer application. The Exams is administered by National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) done in December soon after the attachment. Certification is provided to those who meet the competency standards of attaining grade 3 in the NITA examination. In the recent past there have been calls for recognizing the impact of Vocational training in line with achieving vision 2030. Vocational training seek to offer skills to students to make them self reliant as well as job creators, that is why ST. Bakhita House of hope is conforming to this call. By training out students in dressmaking, knitting and hairdressing and basic computer knowledge we envision to empower them to gain meaningful employment as we all to create entrepreneurs. By adhering to this quality assurance we believe our centre is a vocational training centre of excellence ready and up to task to churn out skilled and competent students.
At St Bakhita, they don’t only teach but also offer mentorship and entrepreneurship programs which have really shaped my career in dressmaking. I have gained valuable expertise in the field of tailoring and dressmaking. With this knowledge I have been able to open my own tailoring and dressmaking workshop, I am now able to create garments for clients ranging from school uniforms, dresses, blouses, curtains, and baby gowns and also do some garment repairs for my clients. Without any doubt St Bakhita is the best hairdressing vocational training centre there is, after graduation, I worked in a Salon and beauty parlor in Eldoret Town. After a year I was ready to go on my own by opening my own salon. One year later I had two employees: a hairstylist anda nail art artist, I am able to feed my family and help others.
